tiramisu

♥️find your little friday♥️
~
tiramisu; classic, easy and young, first being cited in cookbooks from the 1960’s. roughly translated to mean “pick me up” and features the savoiardi cookie which translates to “lady fingers.” the first time I had this dessert was at the maple tree inn in the neighborhood of beverly, chicago. the waiter teased my impressionable mind over cookies being named after fingers, but I remained curious. I was 8 years old and tom hanks character in sleepless in seattle had just given new life to this treat by remarking it was “a mysterious thing that modern women loved.”
when the dessert arrived at our table I closely examined its beauty and after my first bite, I was hooked. this sponge cake, whipped cream and cheese, with espresso, liqueur and cocoa powder was a bit of a gateway to chocolate for me, while checking all my favorite dessert boxes. I am resolutely a fruit dessert and candy kind of person but, where would we be without exceptions to our rules? whipped cream, cheese, sponge cake like cookies and coffee being in my top five favorite ice cream flavors, I was made to love it. the cocoa is not the main event but more of a supporting character that pushes it over into perfection, like jonah to his father sam in sleepless.
my steps and recipe are below, let me know how yours turns out if you end up trying something once deemed mysterious
~
•1 1/4 cup room temperature espresso/coffee
•6 tbsp coffee liqueur(kahlua for me)
•2 packages of 3oz of lady finger cookies
•16oz of cold mascarpone cheese
•2 cups heavy whipping cream
•1/2 cup of powdered sugar
•1 tsp vanilla extract
•unsweetened cocoa powder
~
over medium speed, beat whipped cream until soft peaks form, about 3 minutes. add the mascarpone and beat about 1 minute. add the vanilla and sugar, beat for thirty more seconds until combined. combine your espresso/coffee and coffee liqueur in a bowl. dip the cookies one time into the espresso mix and make single a layer and don’t let the cookies oversaturate. break pieces up to cover the bottom completely. spread half of cream mixture, repeat cookie layer process, cover with remaining cream. top with sifted cocoa powder, rest for 4 hours in fridge

I can be quite sentimental and no other holiday brings that feeling out in me more than Turkey Day. Feeding people has always been a love language I speak but I love to express my love and appreciation in other ways too.

Ever since I can remember, we had the family tradition of going around the table and saying what we were thankful for in that moment on the holiday. I am never one to stray from a beautiful tradition and have found that I enjoy taking inherited practices down and giving them my own touch. I’ve learned that writing something down helps people express themselves more easily since they can get caught up in speaking their feelings out loud on the spot. If you have sat down at my table on this holiday, there is always a piece of paper and a pen to write your thankful thoughts down on to share or to keep for yourself because after all, it is your personal gratitude.

The placards are an extension of this practice because, who doesn’t love to see their name written out and placed in a thoughtful manner?

I have always loved this holiday, and its true message of thankfulness continues to deepen for me with every passing year. I hope that you will add an LPF thankful note & place card to your table this year.

Check back as we will be sharing with you all of the ways you can share your thankfulness with others this month. Order your packs here!
