What is your favorite holiday dish?
“My mom’s Christmas morning stratta, it was and still is my favorite thing in the world”-@the
Stratta to my understanding is a marriage of layered bread, eggs, cheese and in this specific person’s household, there always had to be sausage too. A casserole like dish born out of American cuisine, a sort of variation of a quiche/frittata with all the bread. Sign. Me. Up. 💛
I first heard about the dish years ago while watching The Family Stone holiday movie. The dish belongs to one of the stars of that film and she happens to be played by so many people’s favorite “Carrie.” Of course life is always full of irony and in my personal life, I too have a favorite Carrie that loves this dish.
“Oh wait! My step-dad would also make Baileys and coffee on Christmas morning with whipped cream-so we were just a little saucy while we opened presents.”😋
Carrie lives her life fully and spreads warmth with minimal effort. Her work encourages people to feel better and her reach continues to expand. On the precipice of her new studio opening, I asked;
What is your hope for your new space?
“I love the idea of making something old that’s new. I’m going to take the meaning & feeling of a classic French salon in my new professional space and have it feel like it’s an extension of my personal living room. I want to take and bring that experience to beauty. So, I would love just to—have a safe space for conversations about anything all the time. What’s old is new.”
There are no strattas or Irish coffees in these photos, but they showcase the incredible feelings to her words in the life she has cultivated at home. A master of finding the new in the old, hopefully this reminds you to seek joy and to discover your little moments of delight.
